Hermann Moser 2023 ‘Per Due’ Grüner Veltliner, Kremstal, Austria

Translating to “Green Veltliner” or more specifically “Green Wine from Veltin” gets its namesake from the area in the lower alps in the 1600s (today is Valtellina, Italy). Grüner Veltliner accounts for a third of grapes under vine in Austria and is rooted in its culture and history. Celebrating 400 years, 26 generation Martin and wife Carmen Moser -whose profiles are depicted on the bottle- have been preserving and honoring the family tradition of wine making in the Kremstal. Focusing primarily on indigenous varieties. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks with. indigenous yeasts. Aged 5 months in stainless steel before bottling.

 

Arios 2024 ‘Aguafuerte’ Loureiro, Vinho Verde, Portugal

100% Loureiro, traditionally blended with Pedernã, Alvarinho and Trajadura, today Loureiro is experiencing a renaissance. What once was an endangered varietal whose vineyards were nearly decimated, now is being being replanted as it has caught wine makers interest in experimenting with single varietal expressions. From a selection of vineyards in the Vinho Verde region, in the Sousa sub-appellation, mainly on granite soils. The grapes were picked at optimum ripeness, pressed, then clarified and fermented at low temperatures. Filtered and cold stabilized before bottling.

 

Affinitás 2021 Juhfark, Somlo, Hungary

100% Juhark (pronounced “you-fark”) a Hungarian grape that translates to ‘sheeps tail’ in reference to the shape of the bunches. Affinitás, is a wine producer that asks to remain anonymous, but has been making wine in Tokaj for centuries and has expanded to vineyards in the Balaton and Somló. The vineyards are primarily basalt and volcanic ash on the hillside while the lowlands are rich in loamy loess. Grapes sourced from both hillside and lowland to harmonize the terroir of the region in a single cuveé. Hand- harvested and split for aging: 75% in stainless steel & 25% in neutral oak, each for 8 months.

 

Affinitás 2022 Hárslevelű, Tokaj, Hungary

100% Hárslevelű, one out of five of the noble varieties in Tokaj. This grape, which is usually for blending, is rarely showcased as a single varietal. Being one of the noble varieties, by law it must be in a Traditional Aszú Bottle (clear glass, long neck) with Tokaj embossed across the bottle. Hundreds of extinct volcanoes are the essence of the terroir in Tokaj, with complex soil types, ranging from basalt to pockets of clay along the river beds. These grapes were hand-harvested and aged 5 months in stainless steel tanks for a dry expression of this varietal.

100% Zweigelt, is cross between Blaufränkisch and St. Laurent It was engineered at the school of viticulture and oenology at Stift Klostereuberg in Vienna by Professor Doctor Fritz Zweigelt in 1921. Today, it is planted widely across Austria. These grapes were grown on the high plateau of Neubruch with soils deep and rich in clay, where dry farming and organic practices are prioritized. Hand harvested in October, the grapes are brought back to the winery, de-stemmed for a three week mash fermentation in 100% stainless steel tanks for 11 months.

 

Serpentina 2023 Tiktok O’Clock Red Blend, Dalmatia, Croatia

A blend of 60% Plavac Mali, 35% Babić and 5% Syrah from Dalmatia, a region along the southern coast of Croatia. The main grape in this blend, Plavac Mali is a cross between Crljenak Kaštelanski (ancestor of Zinfandel) and Dobričić. The name Plavac Mali translates “small blue grapes” with plavo meaning blue and mali meaning small. Sourced from vineyards in Hvar, Šibenik and Makarska each rich in limestone and Terra Rossa a reddish-brown soil derived from limestone and other carbonate rock.

 

Wildekrans 2022 Pinotage, Bot River Valley, South Africa

100% Pinotage from bush vines planted to Bokkeveld group shales, lithic (shallow and sandy) and duplex soils (clay enriched subsoil). Southern facing slopes, vines are over 20 years old. Founded in the 1970’s the Wildekrans Wine Estate is a picturesque 1000-acre estate tucked away in the beautiful Bot River Valley. Originally established as a mixed farming operation (wheat, olives, ostrich) the owners soon realized that the cool terroir with its breezes off the southern ocean had all the key components to produce grapes of the very highest quality. Aged in neutral French oak barrels for 15 months.


Alaia 2020 Marisa Prieto Picudo, Castile y León, Spain

85% Prieto Picudo, one of the main-red grapes in the Tierra de León DO of Spain. With 15% Tempranillo blended in as well, these grapes were grown on sandy loam with pebbles on the surface and clay several meters under 35 year old vines. Produced by Fortuna Wines, they started in 2011 by the Posada family, producing wines from selected DOs of Spain and focusing on indigenous varieties. Grapes were hand harvested, de-stemmed and lightly pressed before a 10-15 day maceration period. Aged for 4 months in 225 L neutral French oak barrels.
